Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has questioned PAS' stand on cooperating with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the next general election.

The DAP secretary-general claimed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's statement yesterday appeared to be at odds with the decision of Wednesday's meeting between Bersatu-PAS attended by Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and PAS number two Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Lim said Mukhriz met him at the Pakatan Harapan open house in Alor Setar, Kedah last night and explained the matter to him.

“Mukhriz seem to be confused over the matter, we will discuss it on Feb 7 when we meet in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.

He was responding to queries on DAP's stand on PAS and Bersatu agreeing to form a “technical committee” to discuss how to cooperate in GE14.

Lim said the confusion arose when Hadi was quoted in the New Straits Times as saying, “Any formal decision has to be collectively made by the PAS working committee and not by an individual official”.

He expressed hope that the decision to cooperate or otherwise between the two parties would be related to Bersatu's allies in Pakatan Harapan.

“We hope to hear the decision earlier, and not only through the media, as we are allies, and this has been our practice in Pakatan Harapan,” he added.

Following the meeting, several PAS leaders also said that there was a still a long road ahead with regard to sealing a deal with Bersatu.

Meanwhile, Lim reiterated that there was no space for DAP to work with PAS.

His remark comes after his father, Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang offered an olive branch to Hadi to join forces for the coming national polls.

However, Hadi said the “door remains closed” to DAP but open to Bersatu.

“This is not what I said, but Hadi did, so the agreement is only between PAS and Bersatu.

“We are willing to work with anyone who wants to join forces with us to save Malaysia and to fight the 1MDB scandal.

“The fight against 1MDB can unite the opposition but we have yet to hear what is PAS' stand on this,” he added.
