Video footage captured during the Chinese New Year Ops conducted by the Johor Road Transport Department (RTD) from Jan 21 until late yesterday evening, detected about 500 offences committed daily along the North-South Highway.
Johor RTD director Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the footage were captured via cameras located at KM15.1 Pagoh (northbound) and KM145.2 Pagoh (southbound) from 8am to 5pm. "The video recording implemented in collaboration with Plus Malaysia Berhad is a new element to be adopted by the Johor RTD in ensuring motorists obey the law.
"The recordings were delivered daily to the RTD headquarters for scrutiny and we are now tracking down the drivers involved," he told reporters after inspecting express buses at the Larkin Sentral Terminal, tonight.
He said based on the video footage, the offences generally were driving continuously in the fast lanes (for heavy vehicles), driving in the emergency lanes, driving dangerously and inconsiderately.
