Police have recorded the statement of convicted serial rapist Selva Kumar Subbiah, who returned to Malaysia at 7.30am this morning, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The 56-year-old returned to Malaysia after having served a 24-year jail term in Canada for 19 counts of sexual assault, 28 counts of administering a drug or noxious substance, 10 counts of various kinds of assault and a dozen other charges, including extortion.

His statement was taken at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport police station and his movements will be monitored, Khalid told Bernama.

He added Selva is free to reside anywhere but Sabah, which has barred entry to the Penangite for fear he may reoffend.

Sabah and Sarawak have immigration rights, as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Experts had testified in a Canadian court that Selva has potential to reoffend, despite serving a long jail sentence.

According to Khalid, Selva is also not required to register himself at any police station and is free to move about like other Malaysians.

Selva reportedly gave 20 pressmen waiting at the airport the slip this morning when he exited via the domestic arrival hall.

Waiting reporters were informed of this by a KLIA auxilliary police member.
