Barely two months into the year, the police have arrested over 23,000 drug offenders and impounded assets worth over RM22 million. 

Bernama quoted Bukit Aman Anti Narcotics department deputy director (Intelligence/Operations) Kang Chez Chiang as saying the arrests were made nationwide between Jan 1 and Feb 9. 

Off the 23,077 offenders, the majority were addicts (13,544), followed by possessors (6,517) and suppliers (3,016). 

Police also seized drugs worth RM16.36 million during the operation period. 

In the latest case last Monday, police detained six local suspects aged between 34 and 39 years, who were running drug syndicates in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. 

"Police seized drugs estimated to be worth RM1.1 million in four raids in Rawang and Kajang in Selangor, and Sri Hartamas and Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur," Kang told a press conference in KL today. 

Police also seized a Beretta 950 pistol, 101 bullets, as well as seven vehicles, including a Mercedes Benz, and cash and jewellery from the suspects. 

All the suspects are under remand until Monday to assist in investigations.
