Grab Malaysia may look into compensation for drivers after a glitch in the app allowed drivers to only charge RM110 for rides from Genting to anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia.

"If the drivers were affected, they can report it to us and we will definitely look into it," Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh told Malaysiakini today.

He said Grab understands there are not many cases.

Grab fixed its app after Malaysiakini reported complaints from drivers penalised for rejecting rides, including from Genting where they were only allowed to charge a flat rate of RM110.

Malaysiakini's checks found a ride from the Pahang tourist destination to Johor Baru, for example, cost RM110 before the app was fixed, but more than RM500 now. 

This comes after small traders association Ikhlas lambasted Grab earlier this week, over its flat-rate policy from Genting to anywhere in Malaysia.

When speaking to some of the Grab drivers after Grab's app fix, one driver, Mohd Gha Zaidi, said : "Now at least some (Grab) drivers won't be too choosy about picking passengers from Genting as the fares are more realistic. Kudos to Grab for fixing the issue.

He also hopes that Grab would compensate its drivers who have made long-leg journeys for RM110, instead of its actual value.

However, many drivers are still furious over Grab's RM1 penalty-rule.

One driver claimed that he had lost more than RM1,000 because of this policy.
