Grab Malaysia today denied that drivers are unhappy with the company's policy of fining RM1 every time a driver rejects a ride request.

"From my understanding, most of the drivers are pretty happy.

"In fact, its actually a bonus (to genuine drivers)," its country head Sean Goh told Malaysiakini.

He further added that this penalty would discourage drivers that purposely cancel or reject ride requests, allowing loyal Grab drivers to make a living.

At a press conference called by small traders association Ikhlas on Monday, some Grab drivers complained that the penalty system was hurting their livelihoods.

Ikhlas president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah also alleged that Grab's "low-fare-introduction" was introduced to kill conventional taxies.

He claimed the new policy had cost a single driver a loss of RM1,112 in just ten days - of which he produced a screenshot of a correspondence between the said driver and Grab, as evidence.

Earlier today at the Metal Bees Production House in Kota Damansara, the ride-hailing giant also launched GrabShare, the company's new service.

Grab said the service would target passengers who want to reach their destination for less.

"Our sophisticated algorithm will also allow drivers to save fuel while earning more," its software engineer, Dominic Widdows said.
