Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said Malaysia has no reason to cast North Korea in bad light, in relation to the murder of Kim Jong-nam.

"We have no reasons (to) do something that would paint the North Koreans in a bad light," said Najib when met by reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib said this when asked to respond to North Korean ambassador Kang Chol's hard-hitting press conference today where he cast aspersions on Malaysian police investigations.

Kang also accused Malaysia of collaborating with South Korea to paint a negative image of the northern neighbour and claimed that the Malaysian authorities had issued a series of conflicting statements on the murder.

Najib brushed this aside by stating that the Malaysian police and doctors were very professional in their investigations into Jong-nam's murder.

"I have absolute confidence that they are very objective in whatever they do," he said.

He also urged Pyongyang to respect the fact that Malaysia will follow the rule of law.

Jong-nam, the older half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was attacked at KLIA2 last Monday and later pronounced dead when he reached the hospital.
