Umno has rejected Lim Kit Siang's offer to speak at the party's information sessions on the 1990s foreign exchange (forex) scandal.

Umno information chief Annuar Musa said the party does not welcome at its events those who do not uphold the Federal Constitution and Rukunegara and disrespect syariah law and Islam.

"Umno's platform is unsuitable for a politician like him.

"We are also concerned that Kit Siang will use this opportunity to defend his son, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is now facing charges.

"(Kit Siang would also) sneakily try to break up Malay unity in DAP's bid to control national politics," Annuar said in a statement.

Lim had earlier offered to speak at the Umno info blitz starting next week, which are organised to clarify the difference between the forex scandal and 1MDB.

Lim also volunteered to join the probe on the forex scandal ordered by cabinet last week, if the terms of reference is expanded to include the 1980s Bank Bumiputera Finance scandal and 1MDB scandal.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman said there is no need for 1MDB to be investigated alongside the forex scandal, as 1MDB has already been investigated.

Azalina said the veteran DAP MP is trying to influence the terms of reference of the forex probe to suit his political agenda.

"Kit Siang's conditional volunteerism is evident in his attempt to push politically motivated terms of reference.

"Kit Siang (photo) should instead, come with clean hands if he wishes to assist the task force," she said in a statement.

Azalina added that 1MDB has already been investigated by a special task force consisting of the then auditor-general, attorney-general and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief.

Auditor-general Ambrin Buang will be replaced by  Education Ministry former chief secretary Madinah Mohamad tomorrow, while former AG Abdul Gani Patail had his contract cut short last year months before MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed opted not to have his contract renewed.

Azalina said 1MDB was also probed by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which includes opposition lawmakers.

The PAC report on its probe on 1MDB was tabled in Parliament in April last year, but the auditor-general's report appending the PAC report remains an official secret.

Kit Siang had spoken extensively about Bank Negara's forex losses and had told Parliament in 1994, when he was the opposition leader, that there was a need for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to probe the matter.

He repeated this call in 2004 when Nor Mohamed Yakcop was appointed Finance Minister II under the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi administration. Nor Mohamed was a key figure in Bank Negara when the losses were incurred.
