The Kuala Lumpur High Court has fixed June 1 to hear Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's application to intervene in former de-facto Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim's case against AmBank Islamic Berhad.

This is in respect of the case for the financial institution to disclose the sources of funds in five accounts totalling US$731 million believed to be owned by the PM.

The date was fixed by High Court deputy registrar Engku Nurul Ain Engku Muda during case management today, Nor Hazira Abu Haiiyan, who was in court today, told Malaysiakini.

Najib's other lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun, when contacted by Malaysiakini confirmed the hearing date.

It was reported that Zaid had filed an ex-parte originating summons on behalf of taxpayers and the people last Oct 21, where the former minister named the bank as the sole respondent.

He wants a court order for him and his lawyers to inspect and take copies of the accounts and for the bank to disclose the sources of income and payments made for all five accounts up to Sept 30, last year, within three days of the service of the court order.

Zaid's application against Ambank is related to his representative action suit against Najib, 1MDB, the government and Najib's stepson Riza Aziz.

The bank account numbers are 211-202-200969-4, 211-202-201188-0, 211-202-201190-6, 211-202-200989-8 and 211-202-201189-8.

Najib, on Nov 8, during the case management of Zaid's case against Ambank had applied to intervene in the case, despite not being named a party to the suit.

Zaid in his supporting affidavit, against Ambank said he is the plaintiff in the other suit where Najib operated the five accounts and of the five, the one bearing 211-202-200969-4, was closed by the PM on Aug 30, 2013.

“The monies were paid into Najib's accounts with Ambank and dealt by the bank in accordance with Najib's or his nominee's instructions.

“This information is relevant and material in respect to matters pleaded against Najib that are required in the other suit and we humbly pray that the court grants the order in terms,” Zaid states in the affidavit in support of the application.
