PAS ulama information chief Khairuddin Aman Razali believes the issue of him debating Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin has been resolved following a meeting between the two in Kangar this morning.

Khairuddin said Asri agrees with amendments porposed by PAS in the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Court Act amendment bill but "has his views for other amendments", Berita Harian reported.

Khairuddin's visit to the mufti's home comes after the Kuala Nerus MP was recorded saying in a ceramah that he will "sekeh" any mufti who claims Act 355 should not be amended.

Sekeh is a Malay word that roughly translates to knocking someone's head using one's knuckles, and is often used in the context of disciplining a recalcitrant child.

Khairuddin also challenged anyone prepared to do so to debate the matter, but Asri said it would be better for him to debate with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who talbled the Private Member's Bill to amend Act 355.

Commenting on the "sekeh" remark, Khairuddin explained it was casual East Coast speak, which should not be taken literally.

"I made that speech on Feb 12 in Kelantan. A day after that Asri sent a private message to me via WhatsApp to explain his position on Act 355.

"I told him 'For Allah's sake, I care for you'... and then on Feb 26, the video clip was circulated," he reportedly said.

Asri earlier said what he opposes is the act of denouncing someone as refusing syariah and non-Muslims if they do not share PAS' views.

He said there are more urgent priorities that Muslims must address, like the issue of Muslim economy, before focusing on amending Act 355.
