The police have arrested alleged seven individuals late last month over plans to launch a "large scale" car bomb attack in Malaysia.

According to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, two of the suspects had received instructions to do so by Muhammad Wanddy Mohamed Jedi, reportedly a Malacca-born senior IS operative based in Syria.

Muhammad Wanddy was last June identified by police as the mastermind of the bomb blast at a Puchong nightspot which injured eight.

The seven suspects comprised of a Malaysian, an Indonesian, an "East Asian" and four Yemenis.

Police said one Indonesian suspect was deported from Turkey last June while attempting to travel to Syria.

The 37-year-old East Asian suspect was arrested on Feb 23 in Petaling Jaya.

The suspect is believed to be a member of a terror group in East Asia who was using Malaysia as a transit place.

False student pass

He had entered the country in 2011 using a false student pass from a local public higher learning institution.

“Early investigations confirmed that the suspect has relations with another member from an East Asian terror group involved in getting members of the group to Malaysia before they leave to join IS in Syria.”

The four Yemeni suspects caught on Feb 26 in Serdang and Cyberjaya are believed to be members of a rebel group in Yemen.

“Investigations found that they were also involved in syndicate activities of forging travel documents."

Various foreign passports and cash of RM270,000 from various foreign currencies were also seized in the operations.

All suspects were arrested under suspicion of committing offences under Chapter VIA of the Penal Code for offences related to terrorism and will be investigated under Special Offences (Special Measures) Act.

One suspect was detained under the Immigration Act.
