DAP today said it will return 50 percent of taxes collected from Sabah and Sarawak to the state governments if it comes to federal power.

It will also ensure 20 percent oil royalty is paid and allow the states full autonomy in healthcare and education, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said.

"They are just asking their rightful share not the share form other states.

"This is to show we support autonomy for sabah and sarawak in line the Malaysia Agreement 1963," he told a press conference in Subang Jaya today.

Lim said autonomy in education and healthcare also means that the states will have to pay for those two services themselves.

This includes salary of teachers and healthcare professionals and maintenance of schools and hospitals.

'Revive English medium schools'

However, the states will be bound by the national curriculum, Lim said.

Sarawak DAP chairperson Chong Chieng Jen said the curriculum is subject to discussion but there will be "more Sabah and Sarawak history".

"We will also revive English medium schools," he said.

Sabah DAP chairperson Stephen Wong said there will also be an inclusion of the Kadazan language as an option in schools in Sabah.

"This is what we have been fighting for," Wong said.

He said this announcements disproves claims that DAP in Sabah and Sarawak is subservient to the central body in Kuala Lumpur.

Chong claimed Sarawak BN makes a big show of fighting for autonomy but in fact "they beg, beg, beg".

"It is like a master-servant situation, where Sarawak BN is the servant and the master being peninsular Malaysia.

"On the other hand, at the DAP we are offering unconditionally to the people of Sarawak that this will happen if we are in power...

"Anyone who wants autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak, DAP is the party," he said.
