Johor opposition leader Gan Peck Cheng has lodged a police report over conflicting figures released by Menteri Besar Mohamed Khalid Nordin regarding the number of bumiputera land titles which were converted.

Gan, who is the Penggaram assemblyperson, said in her police report that Mohamed Khalid had recently told the press that 3,000 bumiputera lots were released, mostly for luxury homes, since 2013.

This conversion of land titles allowed the state to collect RM600 million which was channeled to the Bumiputera Housing Fund, which was used for affordable housing projects, said Mohamed Khaled according to Bernama on March 4.

She claimed that this contradicted what Mohamed Khaled told the Johor state assembly in April 2016.

At the time, according to Gan's police report, Mohamed Khaled said 4,503 out of 16,914 properties that were built between 2013 to 2016 and meant for sale to bumiputera, had the titles converted and released to the public.

"We want police to investigate the menteri besar over the conflicting claims which was released with the intent to mislead, as it raises concerns over abuses in the Bumiputera Housing Fund, which will have a negative impact on the people of Johor," she wrote in her police report.

Gan said that although what Mohamed Khaled told the state assembly may involve other types of properties, there is still legitimate concern over the monies collected for the fund.

The conversion of land titles for non-bumiputera use in Johor has come under the spotlight following a series of arrests involving the son and special officer of Johor exco member Abd Latif.

Although Abd Latif, who is in charge of the housing, is not subject to graft investigations, he has since gone on leave.
