A Umno Youth division leader from Johor and a woman were today remanded to assist investigations into alleged fraud related to Rumah Mampu Milik Johor (RRMJ) affordable housing scheme. 

The suspects, aged 41 and 43, are investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and will be held until this Friday, Sinar Harian reported. 

The duo were arrested yesterday when they gave their statements to police at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters, the daily reported. 

They allegedly defrauded four people of RM120,000, using the affordable homes scheme, it reported.

The daily said the victims realised they were defrauded when they found their applications did not exist in state records. 

This comes after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's arrest of the son and special officer of Johor exco member Abd Latif Bandi over a racket to collect kickbacks for changing the status of properties earmarked for sale to bumiputera buyers only.

Abd Latif, who is exco member in charge of housing, has gone on leave until the investigations are completed. 

Jais Sarday has been appointed to take over his portfolio while he is on leave. 

Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Jais will also put in place "drastic" changes to ensure good governance.
