PAS is adamant that it will not have any political cooperation with Umno, despite Umno president Najib Abdul Razak not discounting the possibility of working with PAS in the next general election.
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said PAS will only cooperate with Umno in the interest of religion and the country.
"We will cooperate (with Umno) if it is in the interest of the country, of Islam and the rakyat, but it would only be between governments. No political co-operation.
"We will fight Umno in the 14th general election," he told reporters after the PAS central committee meeting in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, today.
Najib, who is also prime minister, said the BN-led federal government will put the people first and will co-operate with PAS to ensure the people's prosperity.
He also urged party leaders to put aside partisan politics and ideology, and to work together.
On a related matter, Mohd Amar said negotiations with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) are still ongoing.
"We are still at the stage where we're listening to what they have to say, and we say what we want to say. There is no decision on whether to cooperate or not," the Kelantan deputy menteri besar said.
