Toddler dies after suspected abuse
A toddler, aged two years and five months, who became unconscious while under the care of a child minder at an apartment in Section 51A, Petaling Jaya yesterday, is believed to have been abused.
Bernama quoted Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din saying the mother of the victim received a Whatsapp message from the child minder at 2pm yesterday, informing her that her daughter was vomiting, and in a weak state.
He said the mother rushed the victim to the Paediatric Emergency Unit of the University Malaya Medical Centre (at 4pm, but the toddler was pronounced dead at 5.40pm by the doctor.
"Medical examination found bruises on the toddler's body, as well as serious injuries to the abdomen due to a blunt force trauma, while her private parts were also injured," he told Bernama.
Following the finding, four suspects in their 20s - the victim's mother and her boyfriend; as well as the child minder and her husband, were detained to facilitate investigations.
According to Mohd Zani, the victim's mother and boyfriend, as well as the childminder have been placed under remand for seven days beginning from yesterday, while the child minder's husband will be placed under remand from tomorrow for the same duration.
