Residents of the Lembah Subang 1 Public Housing Programme (PPR) have asked Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Mohamed Azmin Ali to retract his statement about the federal government "trespassing" in their area.

"Such a delusional, rude and desperate statement should not come from the Selangor MB, who should take responsibility for the welfare of the state's citizens," the Lembah Subang 1 development committee (JKPLS) chairperson Yusoff Haniff said in a press conference at the flats today.

Yusoff, who is the Kelana Jaya Umno division chief, was joined by around 30 residents of the PPR flats there.

The Selangor government, who had been in charge of this PPR for almost nine years, has neglected to maintain this area for the welfare of its residents, he said.

The residents, he said, want management of this PPR to be handed over to the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry as they believe it can do a better job.

"Azmin has never entered this area since he became the MB.

"His comments were made from afar without ever visiting here. He should visit here and see the conditions here first," Yusoff said.

Azmin had previously claimed that the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) had "trespassed" into the Lembah Subang PPR by setting up a management office there without Petaling Jaya city council's (MBPJ) permission.

The state government is currently in negotations with the ministry about handing over management of that PPR to the federal government.

"This is trespassing. There are still some issues to be discussed before a decision is made.

"This is a matter between two governments, so it has to go through the proper lawful process," Azmin had said on Tuesday.

The residents who were present at the press conference today were holding up signs which said "Selangor MB, do not stop KPKT's good intentions for transformation" and "We cannot stand it anymore, we want change".

Mazlan Yunus, who has lived there for 14 years, said that KPKT only set up a temporary management office in an abandoned unit after they lodged a report informing the police.

"The temporary management office is only to take census of the residents here," he added.

The residents also claimed that the state government has stopped providing sanitation services since early this year and they had to pool their resources and hire their own cleaners.

"What were we supposed to do? We can't just leave it and live in filth, it could spread disease, especially to the senior citizens living here.

"This makes it seem like they (the state government) are disinterested in managing this area, so just give it to the federal government.

"They (federal government) haven't officially taken over management here but they are trying to help and we can already see the difference," Rosita Baba, a resident of nine years at Lembah Subang 1 PPR, said to Malaysiakini.

Mazlan also claimed that until now, their rent is still being paid to the Selangor state government.

Not only that, he said, there are two different rates for rent, with some paying RM124 per month while others pay RM250 a month.

"How can those who get RM250 to RM300 a month from the Welfare Department afford RM250 rent every month? Don't they have to eat?" he questioned.
