PKR Youth wants to continue working with any party, including PAS, as long as the agenda is to topple BN and Umno, its deputy Youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin said.

However, Afif expressed disappointment and regret over the "provocative" statements made by some PAS leaders, including PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz.

"Such remarks invite bigger arguments, and they are seen as a disrespect to the efforts of other PAS leaders who continue to discuss with PKR leaders so that both parties can cooperate to face BN and Umno in the coming national election," Afif said in a statement.

"The country is at a crossroads - whether to continue as it is now, mired in claims of corruption and abuse of power - or to change to become a truly democratic and just nation," the Penang executive council member said.

"The prolonged arguments will only worry the rakyat and will negate any effort to topple the corrupt Umno BN regime."

He said the federal opposition needed to continue to cooperate to obtain the support of the people to face the "kleptocratic" Umno and BN regime led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"Anyone who continues to collaborate with the ‘kleptocrats’ must be opposed and kicked out in the coming general election," added Afif, who is Seberang Jaya assemblyperson.

He said this in response to Nik Abduh who said on Tuesday that PAS may no longer agree to PKR leading Selangor, like it did after the 2013 election.

Nik Abduh's statement came after party president Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS aspires to lead the governments in Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perak after the 14th general election.

Nik Abduh said "things have changed and they are not the same as the 13th general election".

PKR leads Selangor, although it had the least number of seats, 14, after the 2013 election, while DAP and PAS held 15 each.

Currently, DAP has the largest number of seats in the state assembly at 14, while PKR and PAS have 13 each.

Although PKR continues to say it wants to cooperate with PAS, the party has refused to work with Pakatan Harapan.

PAS has also threatened to sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) if it joins the Harapan coalition, since Bersatu will also be collaborating with DAP, the current arch enemy of PAS.
