A PAS grassroots leader has reminded Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali that the Islamist party's supporters were the ones who had helped him secure the state's top post.

Subang PAS Youth chief ustaz Hanafi Zulkapli ticked Azmin off today for making a sarcastic remark on the defeat of PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz at the latter's divisional party election.

"Subang PAS Youth wishes to remind Azmin that his sitting in the Selangor menteri besar seat is the result of PAS' courtesy, and not from (the work of) his own party (PKR).

"Azmin's victory in Gombak is also the result of the strength and hard work of PAS' broad machinery that had worked on instructions from the leadership," Hanafi said in a statement.

He was responding to Azmin's tweet poking fun at the loss of a PAS leader who purportedly has ambitions for his party to take over the Selangor government.

The tweet followed Nik Abduh's massive defeat at the Pengkalan Chepa PAS divisional election, in which he challenged incumbent Izani Husin for the division's deputy head post.

"Azmin should realise PAS has great strength at the grassroots level.

"His sarcasm (towards Nik Abduh) is akin to strangling himself, when he knows it is a fact that his party doesn't have strong machinery in any area whatsoever," Hanafi said.

'Boot Azmin out'

While PAS cut ties with former Pakatan Rakyat coalition partner during its 2015 muktamar, it has had an ambiguous relationship with the third component party PKR.

While PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has rejected cooperation with newly formed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on grounds that there will be no ties with any parties that work with DAP and its splinter Amanah, PAS Selangor still remains in the PKR-led Selangor government.

Hanafi called on all the delegates to support a motion to cut ties with PKR at the upcoming muktamar.

He said Subang PAS will mobilise all its machinery to contest in the Subang parliamentary seat, as well as the Kota Damansara and Paya Jaras (state) seats.

"Subang PAS Youth once again stresses it will be committed to Nik Abduh's call to take over Selangor, and show Azmin the exit from the menteri besar's office and rid him from the Gombak parliamentary seat," said Hanafi.
