Malaysia's industrial output in May fell 0.4 percent year-on-year and was down 0.9 percent from April, official figures showed today.

The Statistics Department said the year-on-year fall in May industrial production reflected a decline in mining sector output, which was down 8.1 percent.

Manufacturing sector output rose 6.0 percent year-on-year, while the electricity sector gained 0.2 percent.

For the first five months of the year, output was up 3.9 percent year-on-year.

In the manufacturing sector alone, output fell 0.8 percent in May but for the five months it was up 4.3 percent.

Electricity production in the five months rose 6.5 percent and mining gained 0.1 percent.
