The rakyat will inherit the debts of the country due to the ineptitude of the administration as led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, said PKR Youth strategic director Akmal Nasir.

"The most important fact right now is that every Malaysian, whether just born or not, are burdened with GST and as such, automatically inherits the debts of the country due to the leakages and misappropriation under Najib's administration," he said in a statement today.

He was responding to a speech by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who had said that the National Transformation Plan 2050 (TN50) was meant to ensure the next generation does not "inherit" the burden of rising cost of living currently.

Akmal also pointed out that Khairy had admitted that the Umno-BN government had so far acted reactive and short-sightedly which was why they failed to realise Wawasan 2020 and the 11th Malaysian Plan (11MP).

"After Wawasan 2020 failed to be realised due to various leakage problems caused by the inept Umno-BN leadership, Umno-BN is still fantasising that it can lead till 2050," he said.

The global economy is in a state of uncertainty right now, he said, and the country's financial deficit is growing every year.

The country should be more prudent in dealing with its spending and not continue to go into debt to garner short-term earnings which will add to the burden of the generations to come, he said.

He cited the Manulife Investors' Sentiments Index research (Misi) in early 2016, which found that 68 percent of Malaysians have debts, the highest rate among eight markets surveyed in Asia, and twice the average of 33 percent.

The average debt in Malaysia is RM56,000, he said, which is 10 times higher than the average personal income of an individual in the country.

"I am very confident that the current young generation can no longer bear the burden under Umno-BN's rule and they will not hesitate to vote Pakatan Harapan because it is through the ballot that we can decide the fate of this country," Akmal said.
