New FAM chief can revive local football scene, says Idris

The newly-elected Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, crown prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has been deemed as someone who could help to revive the football scene in the country.

Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron, who is also Malacca United Soccer Association (Musa) president, said this was because FAM was seen to have a top leadership line up with higher calibre, solid, competitive and progressive.

"This is something that all local football fans have been waiting for and the improvements will certainly be beneficial for FAM to restore the nation's football industry in the future.

"As such, it is important for FAM to ensure the continuity of its leadership so that the local football scene will continue to excel in the world stage," he told a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting in Malacca yesterday.

Tunku Ismail won the post for the 2017-2021 term unopposed at the 53rd FAM Congress on Saturday, after his challenger, former FAM deputy president and Kelantan Football Association adviser Annuar Musa decided to withdraw.
