Two DAP lawmakers will visit the Dewan Rakyat speaker's official residence tomorrow to better understand how RM1.4 million was spent on renovations to the unit.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said their objective is to establish whether the hefty bill is justified.

"We seek to understand what kind of 100-metre road, electronic fence, security system, street lights and guard post would cost RM1.4 million.

"We also hope this visit will bring some answers, favourable or unfavourable, to the critics of this project," said Lim, who will be accompanied by Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming during the visit.

The renovation bill was revealed by Works Minister Fadillah Yusof in a parliamentary written reply, released yesterday, to a question posed by Ong.

According to Fadillah, the RM1.4 million was used to build a new road to the Dewan Rakyat speaker's official residence at No 3, Jalan Tunku, Kuala Lumpur.

Construction work began on March 21 last year and was supposed to be completed 10 days ago.

The entire renovation is only 72 percent completed at present, due to a rescheduling of the concrete pavement works.
