Temperature at the Selangor state assembly reached boiling point when a BN state assemblyperson raised the issue of delay in payment to beneficiaries of state government Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) recipients.
Abdul Shukor Idrus (BN-Kuang) said recipients have not received the remaining payment of RM1,500 even though the state government had promised to pay within 60 days after the first payment of RM1,000 was made by state assemblypersons in their respective constituencies.
"There are some beneficiaries who have not received the remaining SMUE payment one year later," he said when debating the motion of thanks to the address by the Sultan of Selangor today.
According to permanent chairperson of the state Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs Committee Dr Daroyah Alwi, the remaining RM1,500 would be made within 60 days.
Daroyah (PKR-Sementa) said the reason could be because they did not register with the scheme earlier.
Unhappy with her reply, Abdul Shukor questioned the registration procedure for the SMUE which he said was inadequate and not comprehensive.
"If they did not register, then how did they get the first payment of RM1,000 from the state assemblypersons," he asked.
The SMUE is a payment scheme for Selangor residents aimed at helping the families of senior citizens or handicapped persons who had died.
Through the scheme, RM2,500 is contributed by the state government with the first RM1,000 to beneficiaries after getting the death report, while the remaining RM1,500 was to be paid within 60 days.
