Johor DAP lawmakers have demanded the Election Commission (EC) to withdraw its updated redelineation proposal, citing the "disappearance" of a village in Johor, from its updated list published on March 9. 

In a joint statement today, four DAP state assemblypersons, namely Tan Hong Pin (Mengkibol), Tan Chen Choon (Jementah), Lim Eng Guan (Bekok) and Ee Chin Li (Tangkak), claimed that Kampong Teratai, a village made up of 876 voters, was missing from the EC's updated proposal published on March 9.

"Kampong Teratai is a village located on the border of state constituencies of Jementah, Tangkak, Bekok and Bukit Serampang," they said. 

In the last general election, the village was placed under both Jementah and Bukit Serempang, but moved into the latter, in May 2016. 

Under the first redelineation proposal published in September 2016, Kampong Teratai moved into Gambir state constituency, while in the updated redelineation propoal, the entire village is nowhere to be seen, they added. 

On March 16, DAP Serdang parliamentarian Ong Kian Ming had pointed out mistakes made in the second redelineation exercise, among others, the disappearance of the Kampong Teratai polling district.

The assemblypersons said this would mean the 876 voters from the said village will be unable to exercise their electoral right guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.

"EC should conduct the redelineation exercise in a more transparent manner," they noted.

They urged the EC to put up banners at the polling districts affected in the redelineation exercise, and also publish the proposal at exhibition centres for inspection by voters. 

"To show its seriousness and professionalism, EC should retract the second proposal and have it reviewed by putting into consideration, the objections received during the first proposal."
