The family of the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is considering legal action against Parti Amanah Nasional (Amanah), over an event bearing former PAS spiritual leader's name.

"Our panel of lawyers is examining closely the speeches, statements and how the event was held.

"If there is any false accusation or statement that can tarnish the good name of the late Nik Aziz, we will not hesitate to take legal action to protect his purity and good name," said Nik Adli, who is one of Nik Aziz's 10 children.

The statement was posted on the Facebook page of his brother and Pasir Mas MP Nik Abduh.

Last night, Amanah had organised a seminar titled "Pemikiran Tok Guru Nik Aziz" (The thoughts of Nik Aziz) in Kuala Lumpur.

It featured Amanah advisor Ahmad Awang, its president Mohamad Sabu and Nik Aziz's protege Husam Musa.

Meanwhile, PAS Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali claimed that Amanah had committed an "intellectual crime" against Nik Aziz.

"This is a manipulation of the thoughts of someone who is no longer here. Tok guru (Nik Abdul Aziz) had nothing to do with that party (Amanah)," Khairuddin said in a statement.

He added that Nik Aziz had stayed with PAS till the end of his life and had never urged anyone to leave the party.

Amanah was formed following a purge of progressives elements from PAS' leadership during internal elections in 2015.

The party is now working with PAS' former allies DAP and PKR, while the Islamist party is striking it out on its own, although it has grown increasingly closer to Umno.
