Next week's Umno general assembly will see a gathering of 2,531 delegates representing all the wings of the party.

Its secretary-general Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said 49 of them were members of the party's supreme council and 10 each were from its Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings.

"Some 2,452 others are delegates from the 191 divisions of the party throughout the country," a Bernama report quoted him as saying at a press conference yesterday.

According to Mohd Radzi, 2,366 delegates of the three wings of Umno would attend the assemblies of their respective movements beginning Tuesday, with 800 delegates representing the Wanita wing, 791 the Youth wing and 775 the Puteri wing.

Mohd Radzi, who is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said Umno resident Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would give a closed-door briefing to all delegates on Tuesday.

Over three days

At 8 pm the same day, Umno deputy president Najib Tun Razak will simultaneously open the meetings of the three wings. The three movements will hold their meetings on Wednesday.

The Umno general assembly will be held over three days from July 21, from 8 am to 6.30 pm.

Mohd Radzi said 51 Umno clubs overseas, including from the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Australia, Egypt, the United States, Japan and Denmark, and 18 political parties from other countries, including Cambodia, China, Cuba, Egypt, India, Khazakstan, Korea, Laos, Morocco, Pakistan, Bosnia and Vietnam comprising 47 delegates would attend the assembly.

He added that 1,200 representatives of the media from 55 domestic and foreign agencies would cover the general assembly.
