PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has denied that his stand regarding a party member charged with providing false information is related to party deputy president Azmin Ali.

Speaking to Malaysiakini on the case involving Ampang PKR Youth leader Adam Rosly Abdullah, the Pandan lawmaker said he has always been consistent on this matter.

“Ever since the issue was first brought to public attention, I asked him on the same day to declare his assets,” he added.

Rafizi noted that Azmin's position was not much different, where he indicated that Adam should go through the process of an internal disciplinary inquiry.

As for his differences with Azmin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, he said the pair have managed to handle their opposing views with regard to political strategies in a professional manner.

“It is confined within the party internal space without affecting PKR's commitment to Pakatan Harapan and bringing down BN.

“As such, there's no need to hit at anyone in order to air any difference of opinion. The party's internal space is more than adequate at that.

“My view about Adam Rosly is consistent with similar views about corruption and holding a high standard of political office that I have expounded all this while,” he added.

Last Friday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) slapped six charges against Adam Rosly, who was initially detained over his unusual wealth.

Among others, the charge sheet said the PKR Youth leader had told investigators that he had purchased his Disney-like mansion worth RM1.2 million in case he could not obtain a bank loan.

The 30-year-old businessman also said he had obtained the funds to purchase the bungalow from among others loans taken from loan sharks, his mother-in-law and his late grandmother.

Following this, Rafizi said PKR must distance itself from the matter, either by relieving him of his post pending trial, or subjecting him to a disciplinary proceeding as suggested by Azmin.

In a posting on Malaysia Today, its webmaster Raja Petra Kamaruddin claimed that Rafizi was aiming for Azmin's jugular.

He alleged that Adam Rosly is the menteri besar's “gatekeeper”.

“Hence Rafizi is trying to bring Adam down so that Azmin will fall. Once PAS makes its move at the end of this month to divorce PKR, and the PAS exco members resign from the Selangor government, Azmin can most likely be ousted.

“But first Rafizi has to implicate Azmin in Adam’s corruption crimes,” he charged.
