Johari offers to show Aabar BVI letter; PAS sues S'wak Report

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Johari offers to show Aabar BVI letter if PAC asks

Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua questioned if Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani, who spoke in favour of arbitration between 1MDB and International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), was blaming Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for the decision to go for a multi-billion ringgit settlement.

Johari denied his stance contradicted Najib but said he was prepared to show the letter as evidence, which he believed made a strong case for arbitration, to the public accounts committee (PAC) if a request was made.

BN's Putatan MP Marcus Mojigoh urged Johari to make the letter public and insisted those in the executive should abide by the leadership or resign.

Parti Amanah Negara strategies director Dzulkefly Ahmad said those responsible should be held accountable for making Malaysia liable for billions of ringgit in the settlement.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang claimed the settlement was intended to show the public that the 1MDB issue had been resolved, but it has backfired as it is raising more questions.

PAS finally sues Sarawak Report

PAS revealed at its muktamar in Alor Setar that party president Abdul Hadi Awang has finally filed a suit against Sarawak Report for alleging PAS received RM90 million from the prime minister. The suit will cost some RM200,000.

At the muktamar, PAS Youth spoke in favour of amending syariah enactments in states that it wins in the next general election, similar to its introduction of hudud enactments in Kelantan and Terengganu when PAS governed those states.

Meanwhile, the PAS Muslimat spoke out against feminism, claiming it denied women their place as "keeper of their husbands' homes".

Parti Amanah Negara was also a central topic, with delegates consistently attacking the splinter party and condemning it.

The PAS Ulama formally endorsed a motion to sever ties with PKR.

Selangor PAS ulama delegate Nik Bakri Nik Mat took aim at Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali for apparently mocking PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Mat's defeat in the PAS divisional election.

State clears Tahfiz school

A state probe cleared a tahfiz school, where student Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Ghaddafi was reportedly assaulted by a warden, of wrongdoing. The 11-year-old's legs had to be amputated as a result of his injuries and he subsequently died.

Malaysian Consumers Association (Maconas) president Amarjit Singh Gill urged the authorities to ensure that there will be no cover-ups over the incident.

Malaysiakini's KiniGuide explains what tahfiz schools are and how they work.
