MUKTAMAR | PAS would not need donations if allegations that party president Abdul Hadi Awang had received RM90 million were true, a party leader said.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hasan said this last night as party volunteers collected donations from approximately 500 who attended a ceramah in Alor Setar, Kedah.

"I implore you to donate, to help fund the cost of the muktamar.

"If not us, who would fund it. As you all know, the RM90 million is a fairy tale by political desperados, it is not reality.

"If the RM90 million claim was true, we would not be collecting donations," Nasrudin told the audience.

Last year, whistleblower site Sarawak Report claimed Hadi had received RM90 million from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

PAS is suing the website’s editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for defamation over the allegation.

Besides collecting donations for the muktamar, PAS had also launched a fund to help raise money for the lawsuit against Rewcastle-Brown in England.

'No money for hotel'

The party is also collecting donations to help fund construction of the half-finished Kedah PAS complex, where the muktamar is being held.

PAS vice president Idris Ahmad said this year's muktamar cost the party RM400,000, and that it was mostly funded by contributions from party members.

Idris said if the party did receive the RM90 million as alleged, it would not hold the muktamar at the Kedah PAS complex, where a temporary tent building was set up to serve as a secondary hall.

"We wouldn't hold it (the muktamar and this ceramah) in this tent. We'd hold (the muktamar) at a hotel...

“We would turn the air conditioning up so it is as cold as (what) eskimos (experience)," he joked.

On the lawsuit against Rewcastle-Brown, the Bukit Gantang MP said the point of the lawsuit was to defend the party's honour.

He said PAS will also be suing its former vice president Husam Musa.

Husam had also claimed that PAS had received a RM90 million cheque from Umno.

Idris indicated the party is also considering legal action against PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi has named former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa as one of those who had allegedly received 1MDB-linked money.
