Suspect uses police vehicle as getaway car

Police are hunting a man who escaped in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) belonging to the police after a break-in at a warehouse in Taman Perindustrian Batu Caves, early this morning.

Gombak district police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said at 5.30am police received information about a warehouse break-in and arrested a 33 year-old man at the scene of the crime.

The suspect broke into the warehouse with his 20-year-old nephew.

"However, the suspect managed to escape at the wheel of the police vehicle when a policeman, who was with the suspect, got out to locate the other suspect in the warehouse," he told reporters at Selangor Police headquarters in Shah Alam today.

Ali said the nephew of the main suspect was arrested in the compound of the warehouse.

"However, half an hour after the incident, the police managed to locate the MPV which the suspect abandoned along the Latar Expressway (Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway)."

Police are studying the standard operating procedures (SOP) to find out how the suspect got to escape in the police vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Sections 222 and 223 of the Penal Code.
