IGP: Further probe being carried out on drug ring

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be conducting a detailed investigation to track individuals in this country involved in a drug trafficking syndicate masterminded by two Malaysian drug kingpins who were detained by the Thai authorities last week.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said an investigating team has been dispatched to Thailand to do further intelligence work following the arrest of the two men.

"They (the drug lords) will face the laws in Thailand, so, let the Thai authorities take action.

"Following their arrests, we have also sent officers to conduct intelligence work on the involvement of other individuals in the country," he told reporters in Shah Alam yesterday.

On Monday, Bernama reported a suspect dubbed as 'Mr T' or the 'Malaysian Iceman' who hailed from Johor Baru and 'Mr G' from Penang were detained by Thai authorities last week and were regarded as important members of an international drug syndicate that was responsible for grand-scale drug smuggling to Malaysia.

'Mr T', 64, who lived in Thailand for 20 years and spoke fluent Thai, was nabbed by the Thai police at the Hatyai Airport upon his return from Chiang Rai on April 19, while 'Mr G' was caught when boarding a flight home to Malaysia, before the Songkran celebration.
