Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz picked the safest option when asked to choose between the three draft logos for the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.

When the drafts were shown to him during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, he replied: “I don't know, it's hard to choose.”

“I choose the dacing,” he added in reference to the scales which is BN's logo.

The minister also noted how Harapan's apparent inability to finalise its logo spoke volumes of the coalition's indecisiveness.

“They should just decide on the logo, lah.

“This (issue) shows they (Harapan) cannot make any decisions,” he said when asked on the three draft logos which were published on social media for public voting.

Nazri said during former premier Abdul Razak Hussein's tenure, BN had never shown their proposed logo to the public beforehand, and just implemented it.

“If before, the Alliance used the ship logo, after it became BN with the addition of 10 more new parties, we used the scales (dacing),” added the Umno supreme council member.

Following Harapan's decision to formally register the opposition coalition of PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and newly formed Umno offshoot Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) announced last week, the question of the logo has courted some brickbats.

One design is in red and yellow options, while a third, showing a thumbs up, had received comments that it resembled the logo for a popular brand of peanuts.

Offering his take, Nazri said the designs showed that Selangor was the dominant influence, pointing to the yellow and red colours which are in the state's flag.

“The choice of logos shows the Selangor influence is strong; it's not Penang (colours) but Selangor's because of the yellow and red.

“If it is Penang, it's yellow and blue, if Amanah, it's orange … so I think the influence of Selangor is strong,” he quipped.

Harapan governs two states at present, Selangor and Penang, which PKR and DAP have held respectively since the milestone 2008 general election.
