The case of an alleged death threat against Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has been classified as ‘No Further Action’ (NFA).

This was over Gerakan Merah leader Mohd Ali Baharom, better known as Ali Tinju, reportedly saying that Maria "tidak akan berjalan di atas bumi" (Maria will no longer walk on this earth) in September last year.

"The case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

"The investigation papers were presented to the deputy public prosecutor on Nov 14, 2016 and the case was classified as 'NFA'," said Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a parliamentary written reply.

He was responding to a question by Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching who asked about the status of the case.

Following the alleged death threat, Maria had said that she was concerned about her safety and questioned if police would take action.

Mohd Ali denied having issued a death threat against Maria, claiming that he was misquoted.

"I am innocent. I did not finish my sentence (and the media) do not possess any recording or video which quoted me issuing such (threats)," he had said.

Mohd Ali's statement was in the run up to the Bersih 5 rally, which he had insisted should not go ahead.

Despite affirmative action, economic dissatisfaction persists in M'sia

After close to half a century of affirmative action, the three major races in the country, including Malays who were meant to benefit from the policy, are still highly dissatsified about their economic position relative to other races.

This is according to a study sponsored by CIMB foundation.

Meanwhile, Maria in a response on Twitter said she was not surprised by the outcome to classify the case as NFA.

"Not surprising. Rogues get (off) scot free and (are) well protected when (they) promote violence.

"And yet you go after peaceful assemblies," she said.
