Umno is committed in efforts to safeguard the people’s interests and to provide them with the best development, said the party’s secretary-general, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said this was proven with the various changes made by Umno president Najib Abdul Razak in bringing development to ensure prosperity for the people that many quarters envied him .

"Umno before, now and forever. We follow current needs. Umno has rectified mistakes made before because we want the people to enjoy comfortable and sustainable life.

"Umno is a party with the people, the party will continue to help the people, safeguard the country’s security and to provide opportunities and rooms for the people to improve their standard of living,” he told reporters at the Umno Flag Run which was held in conjunction with the party’s 71st anniversary in Putrajaya today.

Tengku Adnan said he was not worried if there were Umno members who left the party.

“They are the disgruntled lot. How can we trust them and how can they administer the country,” he said.

He said Umno and the Barisan Nasional government had an objective which was to realise the peiople’s aspiration and needs.

“Our leaders walk the talk. We do not make empty promises, defame others or lie like the opposition,” he added.

At the event, Tengku Adnan received the Umno flag from Puchong Umno leader Mohd Satim Diman, who joined in the run with about 200 party members from the division.

The run would be continued by Putrajaya Umno, which would then hand over the party flag to the Salak Jaya Umno division.
