Pandikar cites speaker experience in pitch for candidacy

Pandikar Amin Mulia said that his nine year stint as the speaker of Dewan Rakyat has given him enough experience to explain the various issues to the people.

"I am the most suitable person (to contest in the election) because my ears are used to hearing the submissions from the government and the opposition on the global, domestic and national issues.

"I understand the issues raised and can explain them to people at grassroots level," he told reporters after launching the Kaamatan Festival and Negaraku@Komuniti programme of Kota Belud today.

Pandikar, who is in his 60s, said age is not an obstacle to work for the advancement and prosperity of the people of Sabah.

"For example, the late Adenan Satem served in peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak for a long time. He returned to Sarawak as a chief minister with his own style and equipped with vast experience.

"Because of him, the Barisan Nasional (BN) won back the seats lost to the DAP in the previous Sarawak state election."

Pandikar admitted that he is keen to return to active politics in Sabah.

However, he leaves it to the Umno and BN leadership to determine whether he is suitable to be nominated to contest for either a state or a parliamentary seat.
