Kurup drowns Sabah flood critics with contempt

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Joseph Kurup chided irresponsible parties who had turned the flash floods that hit Sook into a political issue.

Kurup, who is also the Pensiangan MP, said he welcomed assistance from anyone who was concerned with the plight of the flood victims in Sook but unfortunately these people were not interested in providing aid or helping but their presence was just to poison the minds of the people.

"Some are taking the opportunity to turn the natural disaster into a political gimmick for their own benefit," he told reporters after presenting financial aid and rice to floods victims from four villages in Tulid.

Kurup said the BN through Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) was always sympathetic of the flood victims and would continue to assist the flood victims by providing aid and help.

The government is providing various types of assistance as well as assess the damages and repair infrastructure that has been damaged by the floods.

" ... we do not ignore flood victims. The accusation by some irresponsible parties that the government was not helping flood victims is not true," said Kurup.

He urged the people to be careful when coming across irresponsible parties that are out to poison the minds of the people with empty promises.
