Electoral watchdog Bersih has vowed to keep going to the Election Commission (EC) headquarters until they get a meeting with its chief Mohd Hashim Abdullah.

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah was at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya today to hand over a memorandum to the commission urging for electoral reforms prior to the 14th general election. The memorandum was received by a corporate communications office. 

She said they had also earlier sent a letter and an email requesting for a meeting with the EC chief to further discuss electoral reforms.

"Just now we spoke to the officer, he said he does not know about the letter.

"What we hope for is to get a meeting (with the EC chief) because there are many issues we want to discuss with the EC before the 14th general election.

"So what we will do is, they can do their job of not meeting us, but we will also do our job; we will keep coming," Maria said to reporters after she met with the EC officer, Mohd Sabri Abdullah, who accepted their memorandum.

She said they have attempted to get a meeting with the EC chief numerous times, to no avail.

She insisted they will keep trying to meet with him, as Bersih aims to have electoral reforms before the 14th general election.

Bersih's memorandum contains nine points detailing electoral reforms that they say can be accomplished within 10 months.

Those present at the EC headquarters today include Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng and Pakatan Harapan secretariat Saifuddin Abdullah.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir, who was also present, said that Pakatan Harapan Youth intends to hold a demonstration outside the EC building next Tuesday, May 23.

This is to protest the EC's decision to no longer provide copies of draft electoral rolls during the display period, he said.

The EC had earlier defended this decision, explaining that they believed the public display is sufficient to inform voters of their status.

Previously, political parties were provided with the draft electoral rolls in CDs for free. The opposition have said that this helped with check and balance within the electoral roll.

Shazni said it did not make sense for them to try and get copies of the draft electoral roll from the public display as they would need to photocopy thousands of pages.

"You would need a van to transport them," he said. 

Further details about the demonstration will be revealed later, he said.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah also claimed that the opposition's study of the electoral roll has uncovered possible voter fraud, which she said will discuss further in a press conference tomorrow.
