Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) today praised PKR for instructing its members to vacate all political appointments in PAS-led Kelantan, following PAS' decision to cut ties with PKR.

Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said his party respected PKR political bureau's decision made late last night.

"I believe the PKR president's instructions for all PKR local council members in Kelantan to resign shows the party is gentlemanly and has dignity and integrity," he told reporters at the Amanah headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last night, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that the party had deferred its decision on PAS members on the Selangor executive council, pending Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's return from his business trip.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said PAS reps on the Selangor exco will not resign unless told to do so by the Selangor sultan, while Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said the PAS members are staying put to ensure the DAP members behave.

Some in Harapan still want PAS

Salahuddin said although no decision on the exco posts, the decision to vacate PKR's posts in Kelantan is a signal for PAS to do the same in Selangor.

"This is something to emulate when any party declares it no longer want to affiliate itself with others.

"I feel PKR is giving a signal last night for politicians who have integrity and dignity. It shows what PAS should do in Selangor," he said.

To a question, he said time will tell if there are still elements within Harapan still trying to forge ties with PAS.

He said the Harapan presidential council meeting in the next fortnight will be a key indicator.

Azmin had earlier been steadfast in trying to form a pact with PAS, to avoid multi-corner fights in the next general election.

Without PAS in government, Azmin's administration commands support of only 29 of 56 members of the legislative assembly - the minimum for a simple majority.
