Faced with allegations of proselytisation, Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh said she will not hide her faith and how it has helped her in her work.

"My walk with God is genuine and I have told my personal story as it is in "Becoming Hannah". Without Him, I am nothing and I am not ashamed to say it," the Selangor speaker said when contacted.

Universiti Utara Malaysia lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff lodged a police report against her this morning, claiming she had breached Selangor enactments by proselytising to Muslims through the book, where she speaks of her faith and its role in her political journey.

However, Yeoh, who is the nation's first woman state assembly speaker, said her faith has actually helped her fulfill her role with integrity.

"When I fear God, I will be diligent in my work and not steal the people's money. I will not be corrupt because God watches," she said.

Yeoh had yesterday lodged a police report against Kamarul Zaman for allegedly defaming her and DAP by using the book, published in January 2015, to claim the party has a "Christian agenda".

In his report today, Kamarul Zaman said Yeoh was aware that her readers would include non-Christians and was trying to influence non-Muslims to embrace Christianity.

This includes referring to herself as an "ambassador of God", he said.

However, lawyer Syahredzan Johan said Kamarul Zaman's police report is malicious and is seeding disharmony.

He said the report implies non-Muslims cannot speak about their own faith without being accused of proselytising to Muslims.

Selangor deputy speaker and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad defended Yeoh, noting that she is a hardworking and fair assemblyperson who has also advocated for her Muslim constituents.
