Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said his government is bold enough to present an annual report card on the country's government transformation programme (GTP), a sign of his "gentleman" and "anak jantan" (man) attitude.

"With God's will, it's been proven that the bold measures we took in the last eight years sparked momentum after momentum, placing us on track for a healthy and right economy.

"That is why, despite criticism on this and that by certain quarters, I, as the prime minister and representing the BN government, took a gentleman and anak jantan attitude, to boldly present the national transformation performance report since 2010.

"Where is there any other government in the world that is this transparent and has the discipline of action in delivering on its promises, prioritising the people, and not just talk," he said.

Najib was presenting the GTP report card at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam.

Hepointed out that when he came to power in 2009, it was amid a global financial crisis.

"The gloomy economic climate even became a fodder for various quarters to slam the government and incite the people about the BN government's capability in the face of tough challenges," he said.

However, Najib said the government's competence, efficiency, systematic fiscal and monetary policies helped the country to overcome these challenges.

He added that the government had also taken many bold steps in advancing the country's economy.

"This government, BN, has taken many bold actions, and many tough decisions, to achieve Malaysia’s goal of becoming a high-income advanced economy.

"The measures taken include removal of fuel subsidies, reducing dependence on oil revenue, rationalising subsidies, and the introduction of goods and services tax (GST) - are now, delivering huge dividends to the people and the country," Najib added.

He said the BN government had proven those who claimed the country will become a failed state or bankrupt were wrong.

Drawing attention to the country's growth, Najib said the average gross domestic product (GDP) growth since 2010 was 5.1 percent, which was twice the global level.

He also raised the country's first quarter growth for 2017, at 5.6 percent.

Therefore, Najib said people should feel grateful that the country is blessed with stability and is on the trajectory of positive economic growth.
