Umno defends the Chinese, while the DAP will only bring them ruin, said Umno information chief Annuar Musa.

"The people who love the Chinese the most are Umno Malays.

"The one that will ruin the Chinese in Malaysia is the DAP," Annuar said, at the award ceremony for his "Lim Kit Siang is racist" writing contest in Shah Alam today.

Umno has been painting DAP as the enemy of Islam and the Malays, in an effort to dissuade support for the opposition.

Annuar said that unlike in Indonesia and Thailand, the Chinese in Malaysia are allowed to use Chinese names and practice their own culture.

"Chinese names, Chinese culture, Chinese schools, all are given their blessings.

"Who gives the blessing? Umno does," he said.

He quipped that if Malaysia was like Indonesia, Lim would be known by a Javanese name like 'Che Heng' instead.

He said that if Umno was racist, the constitution which enshrined the rights of other races would not be as it is right now.

Annuar also said that Umno had given the Chinese political and economic protection, allowing them to flourish and become richer than the Malays.

"The Chinese dominate the economy. But are the Malays jealous and angry? No!" he added.

He explained that Umno as a party of Muslims, practiced Islamic principles including acceptance of other races.

Meanwhile, he said if DAP were to take power, this would upset the social structure and stability of the country.

"When the country is in chaos, the Chinese will be the first to suffer," he said.

The Ketereh MP hence said that Umno must change the perception that it is racist, and show instead that it is the DAP who is racist.

He said Umno must not say things to hurt the feelings of non-Malays, and must also not belittle their partners in BN such as MCA and MIC.  

Meanwhile, Annuar also implied that Lim had helped to instigate the May 13, 1969, racial riots.

He acknowledged that Lim was not in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor on that day.

However, Annuar implied the DAP supremo had through his speeches prior to that year's election, as well as his remarks at Kota Kinabalu on May 13 and his comments the following week, had stoked racial sentiments.

He did not elaborate what he meant or gave examples, merely stating that such evidence could be found in the book which won the writing contest that he had hosted. 

Annuar had first announced the contest in March in response to Lim branding the Ketereh MP as the “Father of Racists”.
