In line with the spirit of Ramadhan, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has urged all Muslims to guard their words and refrain from making wild allegations or spreading slander. 

This is on top of seizing the opportunity for extra blessings and seeking repentance from Allah, he said in a blog post today. 

“Aside from increasing acts of worship and seeking repentance from Allah SWT, I was very attracted to a sharing by Mufti Menk, urging us to stop all bad habits and guard our words, particularly in this holy month of Ramadhan,” he said in reference to popular cleric and Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe Ismail Musa Menk. 

Without citing any examples, Najib cautioned that making wild allegations or spreading slander is a disadvantageous act which could lead to destruction. 

“I believe that guarding our words is not something that is strange for us, as a Muslim or as a Malaysian. 

“Since the times we were in school we have been taught the proverb, ‘terlajak perahu boleh diundur, terlajak kata buruk padahnya’ or in English, ‘If you have nothing good to say, say nothing’ is an often repeated advice,” he said.  

As such, Najib said that all Muslims should also take the opportunity throughout the month of Ramadhan to better themselves in terms of their practise of Islam, be it in the spiritual sense or through their actions.
