PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang spoke out against what he described as the samseng (thuggish) culture in the country.

He said this in response to a recent series of mob and bullying incidences that have gone viral on social media.

"Malaysians are synonymous with Eastern values where people are gentle and polite - consistent with the concept of 'good behaviour and morality' in the Rukun Negara.

"It is not right for the samseng culture, which does not benefit the people and country, to exist and spread," he said in a statement tonight.

Hadi said it was worrying that people were being beaten up before they are handed over to the authorities as well as instances of bullying.

He said such incidences have also resulted in racial tension.

The Marang MP did not provide specifics but news of a Uber driver being beaten up by a mob went viral earlier today.

The Uber driver denied claims he had sexually harassed a customer. Some on social media have racialised the incident.

Last Thursday, navy cadet Fadzil Ahmat, believed to be a victim of bullying, died after being bound, beaten and burnt with an iron.

Last month, a driver was also beaten up when he honked incessantly during prayer time at a mosque in Johor.

"I urged Malaysians to maintain racial harmony and unity in our beloved country.

"Report and leave the problems to the authorities," he said.
