Police arrested two men over the scuffle at a Ramadan bazaar in Kluang yesterday, which saw a few traders harassing Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong and his entourage.

According to Kluang district police chief Mohamad Laham, the duo were detained after they surrendered to the police this afternoon.

"Based on our investigations, one suspect admitted hitting someone who was distributing dates at the bazaar, while another suspect admitted pushing someone else," said Mohamad, according to Berita Harian.

He said police were seeking four more suspects and he expected them to be detained soon to assist investigations.

Yesterday, Liew and his entourage were harassed by a group who claimed that they were not welcomed at the bazaar.

Police are investigating the matter under Section 323 of the Penal Code for "causing hurt" and Section 506 of the same law for "criminal intimidation".

This was not the first time Liew had to face angry opponents during a visit to the Ramadan bazaar, as a similar incident took place three years ago.

Politicians from both sides of the divide have criticised the antagonists behind the incident, with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin stating that the assailants should have been mindful that it was Ramadan.

"There is no need to behave like this, even if we have political differences," wrote Khairy on Twitter.

Similarly, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said that what the antagonists did was un-Islamic.
