Police detain mother of toddler allegedly given syabu

Police have detained the mother of the three-year-old boy who was recorded on video allegedly intoxicated on syabu, which went viral on social media recently.

Kedah Police chief, SAC Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid said the 27-year-old mother was detained at 1.30 pm today at the detective's office of the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.

It was learned that a non-governmental organisation had located the mother and toddler and had sent them to the Kuala Muda IPD (to help the police in their investigation on the case).

"The suspect, who is staying in Taman Gurun Jaya, has been detained. Further investigations found that the actual aim of the suspect to record the video of her son was to annoy her ex-husband.

"The suspect said there were no drugs in the pipe in question. The suspect who was detained for further investigation was not remanded because she is eight months pregnant," he said in a statement today.

He said the victim's mother also had two previous records involving drugs and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Mior Farid Al Athrash said the suspect and the victim were taken to the hospital to have their blood samples taken.

"A urine test on the victim proved negative and he has been placed in the children's ward for further examination.

"Police have also contacted the Kuala Muda Social Welfare Department for further action on the victim,' he said.

He said police were still hunting for the boyfriend of the victim's mother.

Yesterday, the grandmother of the victim, aged 53 years, had lodged a police report after viewing seven video recordings which were sent by her former daughter-in-law's boyfriend.
