Barisan Alternatif revealed today that there are discrepancies in the newly released electoral roll by the Election Commission.

In a press conference, Keadilan vice-president Dr Chandra Muzaffar announced that party workers have been going from house to house checking the names listed in the electoral roll.

"In the electoral site of Taman Selasih alone, it has been found up to this time, that there are 41 phantom voters. The number is increasing," said Chandra, who said that there are many other discrepancies arising from the checks being conducted by BA.

Taman Selasih is said to have one of the biggest Malay majority housing estates in the state constituency of Lunas.

Missing voters

Keadilan election operations officer Azmin Ali claimed that unofficially there are about 1,400 phantom voters listed in Lunas state constituency.

Another problem in the electoral roll is that of "missing" voters who last voted in November's general elections.

"In the electoral site of Sungai Limau, there is a village called Kampung Sungai Badak. When we checked, 190 of the voters who have voted before in 1999 found that their names are not listed on the electoral roll," said Azmin.

"Of the whole village, it was found that there are only three residents registered as voters," he said, adding that BA party workers will continue checking the electoral list.

Earlier today, BA had alleged that there are some 400 names of voters "missing" from the electoral roll for Lunas ([#1]400 names 'missing' from Lunas electoral roll[/#], Nov 27).

BA campaign manager Johari Abdul stated that BA has proof that the missing names were not the result of a technical problem but a deliberate move.
