Gerakan poured scorn on DAP over accusations that the former was sabotaging projects by the Penang government that would benefit the people.

Gerakan vice-president Dominic Lau said this in reference to Penang exco Chow Kon Yeow's comment about the state government's project to construct three roads and an undersea tunnel in the state.

Lau said none of the components had started construction despite the original schedule had planned for the first road to begin construction in early 2015 and completed this year.

"Now the Penang government officially states that the construction of the first road will only start sometime in the middle of next year - making it at least a 3.5 years delay despite hundreds of millions already paid.

"There are no roads and no construction from this project, hence, there is nothing to sabotage.

"If there was any sabotage involved, it would have been DAP who had sabotaged themselves with such a long delay and such ridiculously high payments already made," he said.

The project contractor denied being overpaid for the preliminary studies of the project, stating that the payment had encompassed many other aspects.

Gerakan is mulling to file an injunction against the project.

Lau said DAP should not complain about the legal action as it had similarly employed such strategy in Penang when it was in the opposition.

"DAP cannot be practising double standards. Getting to the bottom of a controversial public interest project is a right under any democratic society.

"It's not an act of sabotage or jealousy but a way to force the government to be transparent about their management of public interest projects," he said.
