Malaysia has condemned the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea on July 4 and strongly urged the country to fulfill all its international obligations in the interest of international peace and security.

In a statement today, Wisma Putra said Malaysia called for the immediate resumption of dialogue and negotiations between North Korea and the relevant parties, with a view to finding a peaceful resolution to the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

"North Korea’s persistent refusal to comply with its international obligations, as prescribed under the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, is a cause for great concern in the context of international peace and security," the statement says.

Wisma Putra said North Korea’s flagrant violation of these resolutions seriously undermined the global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime.

These actions by North Korea could further aggravate the already tense situation in the Korean Peninsula, the statement added.
