DAP should hold re-elections for its central executive committee (CEC) if it has nothing to hide, said an Umno leader.

"I challenge them (DAP), if they have nothing to hide, do what the ROS tells them.

"DAP claims to be fighting for democracy, so if nothing is amiss, why are they so afraid of deciding to hold re-elections?" Umno vice president Hishammuddin Hussein said.

He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Cheras Umno annual division meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

The ROS on Friday ordered the DAP to hold fresh CEC elections, claiming its 2013 re-election was not in accordance with the law.

The DAP has called the ROS' actions an act of sabotage meant to disrupt the party's preparations for the next general election, expected soon.

Hishammuddin however said DAP should not be blaming others for their own internal problems.

"Don't point fingers at Umno and BN, we have nothing to do with this," he said.

The DAP in 2013 voluntarily held a CEC re-election after an excel spreadsheet error affected the results of the initial election held on Dec 15, 2012.

The result of the re-election was communicated to the ROS on Nov 8, 2013, pursuant to the provision of its party constitution and the Societies Act 1966.

The ROS however did not recognise the. 2013 outcome as well, and DAP took them to court.

The lawsuit was dropped after ROS' lawyer told the court that "... the ROS recognises that the DAP CEC elected on Sept 29, 2013 may carry out all its powers, functions and duties in the administration of the daily affairs of the DAP in accordance with the constitution of the DAP".
